Your peel strength and plan are decided at your consultation, based on your skin type and goals.
A TCA peel is a medical chemical peel using trichloroacetic acid. It works deeper than a salon or superficial peel, removing damaged skin cells and stimulating collagen so new skin comes through smoother, brighter and more even. Light peels give a gentle refresh, while medium-depth peels target pigmentation, acne scars and fine lines.
Dr Y assesses your skin and chooses the right peel strength for you.
Your skin is cleansed, and you may be given skincare to use beforehand.
The TCA solution is applied and closely monitored. It takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Soothing products are applied and you go home with a clear aftercare plan.
Downtime depends on peel strength. A light peel gives 2 to 3 days of redness and flaking. A medium peel gives 5 to 7 days of peeling and redness. Avoid the sun, use gentle moisturiser and SPF 30+, and never pick peeling skin.
Skin feels tight at first, then peels during the first week. Tone and texture improve over 2 to 4 weeks, and collagen keeps building for 4 to 6 weeks. Most clients see smoother, brighter skin within a month.

At Skin by Dr Y, a TCA peel starts from £600, including before and after skincare. Superficial peels are £150 per session or £500 for a course of four.
It depends on peel depth. Light peels take 2 to 3 days, medium peels 5 to 7 days. Dr Y will tell you what to expect so you can plan around events.
Most clients see smoother, brighter skin with softer fine lines, pigmentation and acne scars within about 4 weeks, with collagen continuing to improve firmness after that.
It can be, with the right strength and preparation, as darker skin has a higher risk of pigmentation changes. Dr Y will assess your skin carefully and may recommend skincare beforehand.
You will feel heat and stinging while the peel is on, which settles once it is neutralised. Most people find it very manageable.
Many people see a clear improvement after one peel. For deeper pigmentation or scarring, Dr Y may suggest a short course spaced several weeks apart.
Temporary redness, swelling and peeling are normal. Less commonly, pigmentation changes can occur, and rarely scarring without proper aftercare. Following your aftercare plan keeps risks low.
