About Skin By Doctor Y

Is Skin By Doctor Y A Doctor-Led Aesthetic Clinic?

Yes. Skin By Doctor Y is a doctor-led aesthetic and skin clinic founded by Dr Summya Yussouf. Consultations, assessments and treatments are medically led, with recommendations based on your skin, medical history, concerns and goals.

Treatments are carried out by Dr Summya Yussouf. This provides continuity throughout your journey, from your initial consultation and treatment planning to your procedure, aftercare and ongoing review.

Dr Summya Yussouf is a qualified medical doctor and GP who graduated from Imperial College London Medical School. She graduated with Distinction in Surgery and has undertaken additional postgraduate training in aesthetic medicine, including training through the British Aesthetic Academy. She combines her NHS and GP experience with evidence-based aesthetic practice to provide safe, personalised, doctor-led treatments. Further information about her background can be found on our About Us page.

Our approach combines medical oversight, personalised treatment planning and a focus on natural-looking outcomes. We do not recommend treatments simply because they are popular. Each recommendation is based on clinical suitability, realistic expectations and long-term skin health.

Yes. We welcome both women and men. Every treatment plan is adapted to the individual’s anatomy, skin condition, concerns and preferred outcome.

Yes. We regularly support clients who are considering aesthetic treatment for the first time. Your consultation provides time to ask questions, understand the available options and discuss any concerns without pressure to proceed.

The most suitable approach depends on the cause and severity of the concern, so treatment is recommended only after assessment.

No. Although we offer treatments for visible signs of ageing, we also help patients improve acne, pigmentation, scarring, hydration, skin texture and overall skin health.

The most appropriate treatment is identified during a consultation. We assess your skin, medical history, previous procedures, lifestyle, concerns and desired outcome before explaining the options that may be suitable.

Yes. If you already know which treatment you would like, you are welcome to book it directly. If you are unsure which treatment is right for you, we recommend booking a virtual consultation or telephone call first. During your consultation, Dr Summya Yussouf will discuss your concerns, assess your goals, and recommend the most suitable treatment options, explaining why they may be appropriate for you.

Yes, where clinically appropriate. Some concerns respond best to a planned combination of treatments, particularly when skin quality, laxity, texture and volume need to be addressed differently.

Any combination plan will be tailored to your skin and scheduled with suitable recovery time between treatments.

Yes. We offer personalised treatment plans for patients who want a structured approach rather than a single procedure. These plans may combine treatments, skincare guidance and progress reviews according to your concerns, goals and timeline.

Further information is available on our Plans And Pricing page.

Yes. We offer treatment planning for weddings and other important occasions. It is best to contact us well in advance so that treatments can be scheduled safely and results have time to develop.

The exact recommended timeline depends on the treatments involved.

Sofwave Skin Tightening

What Is Sofwave?

Sofwave is a non-invasive skin tightening treatment that uses controlled ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen within the mid-dermal layer of the skin. It is designed to improve mild to moderate laxity, firmness and visible signs of ageing without surgery.

Sofwave may be used on areas including the face, jawline, neck, brows, décolletage, abdomen, upper arms, thighs and knees. Suitability depends on the treatment area, skin quality and the degree of laxity.

No. Sofwave is a non-surgical collagen-stimulating treatment and does not produce the same degree of lifting as surgery. It is generally more appropriate for people with mild to moderate skin laxity who want gradual, natural-looking improvement.

Sofwave can be uncomfortable, as it delivers ultrasound energy deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production. Patients may experience warmth, tingling, or brief periods of discomfort during each pulse, although the level of discomfort varies from person to person.

What sets Dr Summya Yussouf apart is her medical expertise and ability to provide advanced pain management where clinically appropriate. As a qualified doctor, she can perform nerve blocks to significantly improve comfort during treatment, helping many patients tolerate the procedure much more comfortably while still achieving effective results. Your comfort and safety are prioritised throughout the treatment, and pain management options will be discussed during your consultation.

Sofwave results usually develop gradually because the treatment works by stimulating collagen renewal. Some patients notice early changes within several weeks, with further improvement developing over the following months.

Results and timelines vary between individuals.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections & Dermal Fillers

Will Anti-Wrinkle Injections Make Me Look Frozen?

No, that is not our aim. Treatment is planned conservatively to soften expression lines while preserving natural facial movement.

The result depends on your anatomy, muscle strength, dosage and treatment goals.

Results commonly last around three to four months, although this varies depending on muscle activity, metabolism, lifestyle and the area treated.

Initial changes may become visible within a few days, with the full result generally developing around 10 to 14 days after treatment.

Dermal fillers may be used to restore volume, improve facial balance or define particular features. Treatment areas can include the cheeks, lips, chin, jawline, under-eye area, nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Suitability depends on your anatomy and the outcome you would like to achieve.

We use established hyaluronic acid filler brands, including Juvederm and Teoxane, where clinically appropriate. The product selected will depend on the area being treated and the required result.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can usually be dissolved using an appropriate dissolving treatment where clinically necessary.

Skin By Doctor Y also provides filler dissolving and complication-management services. A medical assessment is required before treatment.

Dermal filler results commonly last between 9 and 18 months, depending on the product, treatment area, amount used and individual factors.

Profhilo, Polynucleotides & Regenerative Treatments

What Is The Difference Between Profhilo And Dermal Fillers?

Profhilo is designed to improve hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality rather than add defined volume. Dermal fillers are used more specifically to restore volume, create structure or enhance facial contours.

Profhilo results commonly last around six to nine months. Many patients begin with two treatments approximately four weeks apart, followed by maintenance according to their individual response.

Polynucleotides are injectable regenerative treatments designed to support cellular repair, collagen production, hydration and skin quality. They do not work in the same way as dermal fillers and are not intended to add facial volume.

Yes, polynucleotides may be suitable for improving skin quality, fine lines and the appearance of tired-looking skin beneath the eyes. Suitability depends on the cause of the concern and will be assessed during consultation.

Profhilo primarily supports deep hydration and skin bio-remodelling, while polynucleotides focus more on cellular repair, regeneration and skin resilience.

The most appropriate option depends on whether your main concern is hydration, elasticity, fine lines, barrier health or under-eye skin quality.

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma treatment, uses components taken from your own blood to support regenerative processes. It may be used for facial rejuvenation, skin quality, acne scarring or hair-related concerns, depending on clinical suitability.

Consultations & Appointments

Do I Need A Consultation Before Treatment?

Yes. A consultation is required before treatment so that we can assess your medical history, skin, anatomy, goals and suitability.

You will also have the opportunity to discuss expected results, possible risks, aftercare and alternatives.

You can request an appointment through our Booking page or contact us directly if you would like to discuss your concerns first.

Yes. Virtual consultations may be available for initial discussions and selected treatment enquiries. An in-person medical assessment may still be required before treatment.

Appointment length depends on the consultation or treatment being provided. Some injectable procedures are relatively quick, while more detailed consultations, Sofwave treatments and combination plans may require longer appointments.

Your expected appointment length will be confirmed when booking.

Please bring details of any relevant medical conditions, allergies, current medications, previous aesthetic treatments and skincare products. It may also be helpful to bring photographs showing how your concern has changed over time.

Yes. A consultation is an opportunity to receive information, discuss your concerns and understand suitable options. You are not required to proceed with a treatment simply because you have attended a consultation.

Pricing, Deposits & Payments

How Much Do Treatments Cost?

Pricing depends on the treatment, area, product and personalised plan. Some prices are published on our Plans And Pricing page, while others are confirmed after assessment.

We explain costs before treatment so that you can make an informed decision.

Yes. Once your treatment plan has been agreed, we will explain the relevant costs before the procedure takes place.

Safety, Suitability & Preparation

Are Aesthetic Treatments Safe?

Yes, aesthetic treatments can be performed safely when they are clinically appropriate and carried out by a suitably qualified medical professional. However, no treatment is entirely risk-free.

We discuss expected side effects, potential complications and alternatives before you decide whether to proceed.

Treatment suitability during pregnancy or breastfeeding depends on the procedure. Many elective aesthetic treatments are not recommended during these periods.

Please tell us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive so that we can provide appropriate guidance.

Possibly, depending on the medication and treatment. Some medicines may affect bruising, healing, infection risk or treatment suitability.

Do not stop prescribed medication unless advised by the healthcare professional responsible for your care. Please provide full medication details during your consultation.

Yes, in many cases. Please provide accurate details of previous treatments, including the product used, treatment date, area treated and any complications.

We may recommend waiting or obtaining further information before proceeding.

This depends on the treatment and product being used. Many treatments offered at the clinic do not require a patch test, but where appropriate Dr Yussouf will always discuss whether a patch test is needed.

Preparation varies by treatment. You may be asked to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, or certain skincare products before some procedures.

You will receive treatment-specific preparation instructions once your appointment has been confirmed.

Results, Recovery & Aftercare

Will I See Results Immediately?

This depends on the treatment. Dermal fillers can provide an immediate visible change, although swelling may affect the initial appearance.

Treatments such as Sofwave, polynucleotides, Profhilo, PRP and microneedling tend to produce progressive improvements as the skin responds over time.

Yes, after many treatments patients can return to work or normal activities shortly afterwards. However, temporary redness, swelling, bruising or injection-point bumps may be visible.

The likely downtime will be explained before treatment.

This depends on the procedure. After many injectable or skin treatments, you may be advised to avoid make-up for a period to reduce irritation or infection risk.

You will receive personalised aftercare instructions before leaving the clinic.

You may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise for approximately 24 hours after some injectable treatments. Other procedures may require different restrictions.

Please follow the specific aftercare guidance provided for your treatment.

Yes. We provide treatment-specific aftercare instructions explaining what to expect, what to avoid and when to contact us.

At Skin By Dr Y, Dr Summya Yussouf is committed to ensuring every patient feels well supported throughout their treatment journey, including after their procedure. If you have any concerns following your treatment, you are encouraged to contact the clinic promptly for advice and guidance.

Please get in touch if you experience unexpected symptoms, worsening pain, unusual swelling, significant colour changes, or any other concerns after your treatment. If you experience severe or urgent symptoms, you should seek immediate medical attention.

The correct interval depends on the treatments being combined, your recovery and your skin’s response. Your plan will include appropriate spacing to support safety and effective results.
